Master Lai’s Message to Direct Black Belts
Dear Direct Black belts,
There is simply no way for me to set the HQ BB afternoons to suit every single direct black belt of mine, and even less so for all the NPC black belts. I had no intention of seeking to do this.
The second Saturday afternoon of each month has been picked to reflect that many gradings etc occur on the first weekend or last weekend of months. Furthermore I make my Brussels’ gradings usually on the first weekend more or less. Also I have discovered that many “normal” people have life events at the last weekend of many months. For me, my daughter Alison got married last Saturday in September but that was rare for me.
It is not for me to make excuses to my students. As Sifu my obligation is to provide a teaching venue on a regular basis to enable knowledge gathering. This is how I do it and if they cannot come, I understand it.
Indirect black belts of mine in NPC do not have an obligation to attend my HQ BB monthly afternoons but they do have an obligation TO ATTEND THE ANNUAL BLACK BELT WEEKEND – the dates for which are set early on in each year. If they choose not to come to that as well then how ever many of the monthly BB sessions they do will not make up for it truly. The Black Belt weekend is the showcase for the System’s expertise and knowledge base. If they do not see it then they do not.
Direct black belts of mine have a higher obligation. It goes with the territory.
